Yellow Buses has officially launched its latest themed vehicle – the Poetry Bus, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.

Poets in residence have been travelling on the fleet composing verse and their efforts have now been displayed inside a double decker.

The Poetry Bus has now joined the Gallery Bus, History Bus and AFC Bournemouth Bus in regular service across Bournemouth, Poole and east Dorset.

The works of the poets are colour-coded and match the various colours of services run by the Yellows.

The launch was fittingly at Bournemouth Library where the poetry remains displayed for visitors to read until July 4.

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellows’ Head of Marketing and Customer Excellence, said: “After the success of the Gallery Bus we decided to invite poets to travel on the buses to continue our support for the arts.

“They travelled around on the fleet where they were inspired to write poetry – and we had a great variety of poems to use.

“Our graphic designer Jackie Nicholls has turned the words into a wonderful visual display inside the bus.

“It means passengers have something interesting to look at and to read on their journeys. And hopefully it might inspire some of them to write their own poems.

“The Poetry Bus is in regular services on the ‘1s’.

“We have a fleet of four themed buses now in service and they are proving very popular.

“After the Gallery Bus and the Poetry Bus where do the Yellows take the arts next?”
